Fly Cover | Michelle Obama

First of all- is the woman gorgeous or what??

Michelle Obama in a Jason Wu dress and a FENTON by Dana Lorenz necklace.

It's no secret how much I adore The Obama's and how much I love our First Lady, Michelle Obama. I quickly took notice of her a few years ago when I saw her and her hubby, President Barack Obama, on an episode of Oprah (another idol/hero of mine) post the 2004 Democratic National Convention. And folks, that's when my love affair for The Obama's began. I think I've announced that a thousand times on this blog!

Lady O is being featured on the December cover of Glamour magazine, and ladies and gents, this is quite an accomplishment being that this is the first time in Glamour’s 70-year history that a First Lady has ever graced the cover. She keeps on with her record-breaking and history-making! But it's not only history-making, it's more than that; Glamour is honoring First Lady O with a Special Recognition Award for her commitment to mentoring young women in the magazine's Women of the Year issue. This comes as no surprise to us! Michelle Obama is indeed one classy, resilient, and intelligent First Lady and unequivocally one of the most charismatic and appealing First Ladies in recent history. Empowering young women is her life mission, how can you not love and respect her for that!? She is a true inspiration to women everywhere, all over the world! And my gosh, she looks FLAWLESS on the cover! Let's talk about that for a second. I literally gasped when I saw the cover! She's wearing her go-to man Jason Wu and a to-die-for FENTON by Dana Lorenz necklace. She looks absolutely stunning! No one can deny her flyness!

Here is a snippet of the interview conducted by Katie Couric, another favorite of mine:
The real role models aren’t movie stars--they’re the people you know: “They were the people in my life. My mom, for sure. My dad. The teachers. For me, role-modeling was immediate, it was touchable...Children connect with who is in their lives, present and accounted for...That’s why we’re trying to encourage moms, teachers, fathers, to be that presence in their children’s lives, in their communities, because it really makes a difference.”

Don’t wait to be “discovered” by a mentor: “I was blessed throughout my entire career. I had people rooting for me. It started with my parents, but it extended to almost every teacher that I had. When I was a young lawyer, there were other women and men in the firm who took me under their wing. Look for those mentors, because sometimes mentors don’t find you--sometimes you seek them out. Oftentimes, they’re flattered and glad to lend a hand.”

Don’t put yourself last in line: In answer to a reader question about how she keeps her sanity, the First Lady told Katie, “I have always tried to put my kids first, and then...put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves.”

When it comes to looks and style, set your own standards: “People are always going to have opinions, and people have a right to their opinions, particularly when you’re the First Lady; you’re representing the nation. So I can’t be surprised that people are interested. But I’ve tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else’s reflection.”

With men, don’t be swayed by “cute”: “Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it’s, Who are you as a person? Don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul...When you’re dating a man, you should always feel good...You shouldn’t be in a relationship with somebody who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole.”
It's easy to see why Michelle Obama would be in my Top 5, shoot, anyone's Top 5! She oozes class and sophistication, she's inspiring, and heck, the woman has brains! She is inarguably one of the most intelligent First Ladies that this country has ever had! Not to mention she has style for days! Doesn't get any better than that!

I applaud the whole Glamour team for this issue, I haven't gotten my hands on it yet, but I'm sure they did a fabulous job. And a huge bravo to Lady O for motivating me and so many women, young and old, ALL over the world, to be the very best we can be!

Fly indeed! (:

xoxo,
Mercedes

P.S. I love that last one, "cute's good, but..." lol
